Tom Ulrich coming to SAU

Famed nature photographer Tom Ulrich will present a lecture featuring his photographic transparencies at Southern Arkansas University on April 15-16, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Reynolds Center. The event is being sponsored by donations to the Southern Arkansas University Foundation.
Ulrich’s collection of over 600,000 transparencies has been used by many prestigious national publications including National Geographic, the Audubon Society, National Wildlife, Ranger Rick, and Life. He has published seven nature books: Mammals of the Canadian Rockies, Birds of the Canadian Rockies, Mammals of the Northern Rockies, Birds of the Northern Rockies, Once Upon a Frame, Photo Pantanal, and Mt. Reynolds: The Story.

7th Annual Foundation Christmas Gala

Southern Arkansas University Foundation with President and Mrs. David F. Rankin will host the 7th Annual Foundation Christmas Gala at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Magnolia Country Club.
The evening will feature live dance music and heavy hors d’oeuvres.
Donors to Southern Arkansas University through the SAU Foundation will receive invitations to the event.
Honor Societies Dinner

Save the Date: 6:30 p.m. October 9, 2008 – The dinner recognizes members of the President’s Club, Founders’ Club, 1909 Club, Lifetime Giving Societies, Legacy Society, Hall of Honor, and those who have completed endowments during the past fiscal year.
On October 18th, 2007 we honored 2006-2007 fiscal year donors. We heard Whitney Black describe how her scholarship is enriching her university life and enabling her to participate in programs that she could not experience without this assistance. We were touched by Billy Wallace who spoke of the joy that his sister Bettie Clark has brought to their family through giving.![]()

Southern Arkansas University Foundation presents “Reflections on the NFL: An Evening with Jordan Babineaux”

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas University Alumnus Jordan Babineaux will return to his college home on April 24 to talk about his experience as a defensive back for the Seattle Seahawks.
The special event is being sponsored by the SAU Foundation and proceeds will benefit the foundation and the Kathleen Mallory Lectureship Endowment.
A private reception with Babineaux will be held from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Magnolia Room of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center. The private reception will be followed by a 7 p.m. dinner and remarks by Babineaux in the Grand Hall of the Reynolds Center.
Ticket prices are $25 for dinner and remarks and $50 for entry into the private reception, to receive a photograph with Babineaux and to attend the dinner with remarks by the athlete.
The mission of the Kathleen Mallory Lecture Series is to honor the contributions of Dr. Mallory, an English professor who has made extraordinary contributions to SAU and to issues of English Curriculum improvement in Arkansas and the United States. Mallory is credited with brining scholars working in the fields of African Diasporic and African American Studies to Southern Arkansas University to share their scholarship with students, faculty, staff and members of the community.

Albemarle Lecture March 10

MAGNOLIA—-The Southern Arkansas University college of education, in conjunction with Albemarle Corporation, will present the lecture “Education and Democracy” at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 10 in Foundation Hall of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center.
The key note speaker of the night is Dr. George Wood, director of the Forum for Education and Democracy. Over the course of his 30-year career in education, Wood has worked as a social studies teacher in Michigan and a professor of education at Ohio University. He currently serves at the principal of Federal Hocking High School in Stewart, Ohio, where he has been for the past 14 years.
Throughout his career, Wood has written many articles about the role of education in democracy. He is also editor and a contributor of the book “Many Children Left Behind,” (Beacon, 2004).
During Woods’ tenure as principal, Federal Hocking High School, a rural school in Appalachian Ohio, has received several awards such as an Ohio’s Best award for the school’s internship program, and being chosen as one of the first five Coalition of Essential Schools “mentor schools” through the work of the Gates Foundation.
Other speakers for the night include Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU, Dr. Ruby Burgess, dean of the college of education at SAU and Joe Bossier, plant manager of Albemarle Corporation.
