Mulerider Arena
Southern Arkansas University is in the planning stages for a covered rodeo arena to be constructed west of Mulerider Stables on the University’s campus. Construction is estimated to cost $3.5 million. A gift of $2 million from Therral and Jan Story of Magnolia will benefit the project.

SAU has an active rodeo team sanctioned by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The team competes in the Ozark Region: Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, and Missouri. SAU has a scholarship program for the rodeo team, which features student athletes from across the country. The current rodeo facilities are over 40 years old and have received minimal maintenance over the years. The planned facilities will allow SAU to compete for students who want to further their education, as well as pursue their careers in rodeo by representing their school in regional and national competitions.
The plans for Mulerider Arena call for a covered structure that will allow for rodeos or other events to take place rain or shine. The building will have a 100-feet by 200-feet arena area with grandstands located on both sides, a concession area, and restrooms.
